Born and raised in the small town of Mexico, New York, Kara was an only child who was forced to find ways to entertain herself. Playing make believe with her Barbie dolls and stuffed animals was her first real taste of storytelling before she became old enough to develop a love affair with the written word. 8. What was your favorite book in 2012?
- What gave you the inspiration to write this book?
A picture on the television.
My husband had turned on one of those all music all the time channels on cable. I don’t remember what song was playing, but there was a still photograph of a tractor in the middle of a hay field with a man leaning up against it and a women staring at him. As it often does, my mind began to wander and I started asking questions. Why was the man in the field? What’s with the tractor? Why was the woman watching him? Did they know each other? Were they lovers? Friends? Family? What were they doing? Talking? Having an argument? Breaking-up? The longer I stared at that picture, the more questions I had. And I knew there was only one way to get all the answers…I had to tell a story.
- Who is your favorite character in the book?
Levi Corbin! I love everything about him, from his name to his looks to the way he treats Ali to his adorably, sexy lopsided grin. He's a little more serious than his brother, but Levi knows how to have fun, and he's a true southern gentleman.
- Which came first, the title or the novel?
The idea for the novel came first and the title was a day or two behind. Once I had the characters names chosen, it was pretty easy to come up with the title.
- What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?
I think picking which one of my kids I like best would be easier. (Kidding!) There are so many scenes in this book that I absolutely love. But if I have to pick just one, it would have to be the prom scene when Ali and Levi are dancing to "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" by Toby Keith. It's such a sweet moment that's really very pivotal in their relationship.
- Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?
Jeez, what's with all the tough questions? ;-) I have learned so much, and it's all so important, but the single most important thing (and this is what I tell new writers all the time, too) is to write because you love it. Don't do it for any other reason. Sure, as authors, we all dream of publication and making it on to the best sellers list, but ultimately, you should write because you have a story to tell. That passion will shine through in your writing.
6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?
Everything. It's a fabulous cover that really captured the look and essence of the characters. Plus, just by looking at it you can tell it's a love triangle, which is the central plot.
7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2013?
I'm really looking forward to the third and final book in Ryan Winfield's The Park Service Trilogy. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book, absolutely loved the second book, and can't wait to see what he does in the third book. I've heard he's got a romance being released later this year, too =)
8. What was your favorite book in 2012?
Oh, wow. I have no idea. There was so many of them I don't think I could pick just one. I really enjoyed reading The Hunger Games Trilogy and The Twilight Saga. I know they weren't published in 2012, but that's when I got around to reading them.
9. What’s up next for you?
I've got a lot of projects in the works. I've written a prequel to The Georgia Corbins entitled Ali & The Corbin Boys. It tells the story of how the Corbins and Ali met, and follows their friendship from grade school up to the day they're forced to move. I'm writing a sequel to The Georgia Corbins, which is almost finished and ready to be sent to my editor. It will pick up two months after where this one ended.
I'm working on a sequel to my adult romance, Death of a Waterfall.
And I'm working in conjunction with Ana Blaze, Melinda Dozier, and Aria Kane to write a collection of adult romance novellas that take place during the Winter Olympics. It's been so much fun working with such a talented group of writers.
