1. What gave you the inspiration to write this book?

The bad reactions of my first published novel, Alyssa’s African Adventures. I rewrote that a bunch of times until I realized that it was better to write a new novel. Although the main character is a different character, I felt too uncomfortable with giving her another name and totally different physical appearance. Some of the elements in the book were also based off ones in Harry Potter.

2. Who is your favorite character in the book?

Alyssa’s godfather. He’s a minor character in this book, but will be more major in the rest of the series (I won’t say how, though).

3. Which came first, the title or the novel?

The novel.

4. What scene in the book are you most proud of, and why?

The scene where Alyssa is being attacked by a snake. The language is vivid and well-detailed.

5. Thinking way back to the beginning, what’s the most important thing you’ve learned as a writer from then to now?

Don’t rush your writing and publish it until it’s the best it can be. It takes time to learn the writing craft.

6. What do you like most about the cover of the book?

It fits the title since Alyssa is frightened and is about to fall off the cliff.

7. What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2013?

I don’t know.

8. What was your favorite book in 2012?

Solving Zoe by Barbara Dee.

9. What’s up next for you?

The sequel to this novel. I’m still in the early stages, so I don’t want to give away anything.

10.Is there anything that you would like to add?

Nope, that’s it.
