St Martin's Press Interview & Giveaway: Hello, I Love You (Katie M Stout)

Grace Wilde is running—from the multi-million dollar mansion her record producer father bought, the famous older brother who's topped the country music charts five years in a row, and the mother who blames her for her brother's breakdown. Grace escapes to the farthest place from home she can think of, a boarding school in Korea, hoping for a fresh start.

She wants nothing to do with music, but when her roommate Sophie's twin brother Jason turns out to be the newest Korean pop music superstar, Grace is thrust back into the world of fame. She can't stand Jason, whose celebrity status is only outmatched by his oversized ego, but they form a tenuous alliance for the sake of her friendship with Sophie. As the months go by and Grace adjusts to her new life in Korea, even she can't deny the sparks flying between her and the KPOP idol.

Soon, Grace realizes that her feelings for Jason threaten her promise to herself that she'll leave behind the music industry that destroyed her family. But can Grace ignore her attraction to Jason and her undeniable pull of the music she was born to write? Sweet, fun, and romantic, this young adult novel explores what it means to experience first love and discover who you really are in the process.

Who is your favorite character in the book?

This is the easiest question I’ve gotten for the entire blog tour! :)

I’ve got two favorites: Sophie and Yoon Jae. They’re the nicest characters in the novel, and I think they bring perspective to Grace and Jason’s angst. Also, Sophie is just so fun. I want her as my bestie for sure.

Which came first, the title or the novel?
The novel. I’m terrible at coming up with titles. Fun fact: my editor actually came up with the title Hello, I Love You (which is in reference to the song by The Doors, if there are any classic rock fans out there).

What do you like most about the cover of the book?

I love the illustrated aspect. Illustrated covers are my favorite! When I had chatted with my agent and editor about what kinds of covers I liked, I mentioned how much I loved ones with strong graphic elements, so I was incredibly pleased when I saw mine for the first time. True story: I literally cried when I saw it.

What new release book are you looking most forward to in 2015?
There are so many great books releasing this year, but I feel like I might die before I get my hands on Winter by Marissa Meyer, Oblivion by Kelly Creagh, and Reawakened by Colleen Houck.

What was your favorite book in 2014?

The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski. Hands down. I cry into my pillow at night knowing I will never write something that good.

  3. Thanks so much! I've been a reader of Katie's blog for over a year, so it was awesome to see her go from novelist to published author. And of course, I'm all about more diversity in books. :)
